The first rolling release update is now live: Changelog: - libgpg-error updated to 1.36 - Deadbeef updated to 1.8.2 - Addded Flatpak support (more info at https://flatpak.org/ and https://flathub.org/home) - Puppy version bumped to 1.3.1 How to: First, upgrade the finstall script by typing "finstall script update" do this 2 times one for the finstall script then for it to download the rolling release scripts, after that is just a simple "finstall upgrade". nex iso will be 2.0 i have no plans to upload minor version isos unless it's mandatory

First rolling release, update 1.3.1
Rolling Releases for 1.3 (and beyond)
I've just finished testing the new rolling releases system and it finally works as i want it: - Updates are distributed as sfs files containing deltas and/or new files. - The rolling releases script processes incoming new files first, patch the deltas on a temp folder and finally apply the patched files to the system. - If the delta patch is for a system-wide lib or application it first declares a temp PATH or LD_LIBRARY_PATH, makes a backup, copies the patched files into the system an then redeclares the original PATH or LD_LIBRARY_PATH, i know this doesn't ensures 100% success and saying "nothing wrong is gonna happen" is stupid but at least it makes it a little safer. The idea for this system is to avoid uploading isos for minor or patch updates (following the major.minor.patch versioning). I've uploaded frankenpup isos since 2009 and tried really hard to make all of them worth uploading and with the rolling releases i'll upload isos ONLY for major releases or critical minor updates instead of when a base lib is added removed or updated or a software is removed or replaced making deployment easier and smoother. This opens many new challenges for me since i'm no expert programmer but this small puplet has been my small plaything for years and i'm willing to take on the challenge and give it a try.

frankenpup dev road map 2: FINALLY!
Well i'm finally done with the libpng16 system wide reompilation process, everything is linked to it now and there is no trace of puppy's libpng12 and libpng14, it was a shitton of configure, autogens and libtoolize but now the system is cool and compiling anything graphics related is not a clusterfuck of passed args and code fuckery. Now i'm finishing the main sfs, striping it down a bit and doing some basic testing. Will try to upload the RC2 as soon as the system is stable enough.

frankenpup dev road map 1: FUCK THIS, I'M GOING TO SPACE
Well i'm having really hard time recompiling a shitton of applications and libs because someone thought "Hey, let's link some bins and libs against some old as fuck versions of libpng :D" (libpng 12 & 14) and some other guy said "Yeah, that sounds completely awesome :DD". Well... it's not, and i'm not going into details here it just takes a little bit of common sense to know this can lead to really, REALLY fucked up results. TL;DR:
List of recompiled packages (so far) to amke everything link against libpng16:

Frankenpup v0.5: This time for real.
Well after a year since i announced it here you guys have (finally) a frankenpup v0.5 ISO (Release Candidate):
Some features:
- Kernel 3.17.8 i686. (will offer a version with kernel 4.X... maybe).
- Recompiled almost everything from stable latest sources. (Glibc, GCC, GTK 2 and GTK 3, OpenSSL, JMW, ffmpeg, pango, cairo, etc, etc, etc).
- Python no more included on the devx sfs, instead you can install python 2 and 3 from the "package manager".
- Added custom scripts to install tested software:
-> fpinstall: a really shitty CLI package manage.
- You can install the AMD video drivers from this script (RTFM).
-> dbrowser: to choose an install a tested broser.
- Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Midori, Palemoon (for now).
- New Icons added for every fucking mime type ever, new JWM and GTK themes and i'm TRYING to make a smooth good looking puplet.
- Working to make the boot time faster and "optimizing the init" (by disabling or removing old as fuck kernel modules for old as fuck storage media like fucking floppy and some code fuckery) .
- DRI out of the box, mesa and stuffs.

Frankenpup 0.5 updates, aiming for bullshit: CRUISE CONTROL
Well, well, well udev, udisks, PAM, dbus polkit, consolekit... look at this fucking mess... even harder on a puppylinux based distro... FUCK FUCK FUCK... at least udev and PAM works, dbus is 50% up but consolekit and polkit are some serious bullshit to make run on puppy full force: folders permissions, new users and groups... BULLSHIT BULLSHIT BULLSHIT.
It will eventually work, maybe today, maybe tomorrow.

More updates on frankenpup
Last night i did a brand new sfs, now frankenpup has xorg 1.15.1, better baselibs, filesystem sfs was reduced from 320Mb to 280Mb, recompiled fontconfig, Freetype, dropped razor-qt for LXQt because razor code was shit since teams merged together, i'll be adding more libs to make everything work smoothly as possible, most stuffs are from git so this build is pretty "bledding edge" on some specs, now i will struggle with mesa to get DRI (again) ad will release it as frankenpup BETA v0.5 in a couple of weeks.

Updates on frankenpup
WELL, WELL, WELL shit is going cool now, i have a fairly stable system, new Desktop Environment (Razor-qt because fuck you), and updates are going better than expected. The devx sfs also is doing well, it doesn't bitch (too much). Now regarding size the main sfs (frankenpup-v0.X.sfs) is almost 350Mb, and the devx is 320Mb, but I don't give two fucks about the size so GG.

Some weird case of NECROMANCY
WELL WELL WELL... looks liek someone is working on a puplet again... but this time after years of TRYING i'm actually baking a good puplet featuring:
-kernel 3.8.0
-xorg 1.12.2 (and finally, WITH MOTHERFUCKING DRI)
-Glibc 2.18
-Gcc 4.8.2
-AND MUCH MORE
i'm still compiling libs, removing deprecated shit, TRYING to make it stable, and unlike all my other puplets this time i didn't used slackware as binary resource for missing shit i'm just compiling everything from source just to make the goddamn system a little bit more stable (IT IS slackware binary compatible)... anywhore, some screenshots:
(yeah, fuck you work in progress screenshots are BEST screenshots)
samedog OUT!
